Depo-Uh-Oh

Folks ... it's cold here in the Midwest. I arrived home in Detroit, MI at just after 12:30am this morning and Sarah was kind enough to spare my folks the trip to the airport to pick me up. As soon as I stepped off the plane onto the ramp I could tell that it was coooold outside. As soon as I actually stepped outside, I kinda wanted to immediately step back inside and fly back to LA :) As I type this, it's 11°F outside ... but it's sunny ... so that's something, right?

Anderson Cooper, news anchor supreme for CNN, has just become my new hero. Coop explained on his show last night, Anderson Cooper 360°, and on his official CNN blog that he would no longer be reporting on the death of Heath Ledger because, until the official toxicology report comes back, there is nothing new to report. I was absolutely planning to write the exact same thing today because I have ZERO INTEREST in writing about the wild rumors going around about Heath, his life, who he *may* or *may not* have been dating, etc. Here is a portion of the text of Anderson Cooper's blog post on this subject:

For the last two nights we have reported on actor Heath Ledger. His shocking death is clearly a story a lot of people are interested in, but tonight we will not be reporting more on it. The truth is there is not really anything new to report. The full results of the various tests done on Mr. Ledger will not be ready for perhaps a few weeks and there is very little new information. I have no doubt other networks will spend a lot of time tonight discussing his death and the various rumors about what might have caused it, but I am not a fan of speculation, so unless there is something really new to discuss we probably won't be covering it anymore anytime soon. Tonight we are focusing a lot on politics.

Bravo! It is so easy to pick on the dead because they are no longer able to defend themselves. People are saying the wildest things and while some of them may be true it's absolutely impossible to know for sure what is truth and what is fiction designed to sell more magazines, newspapers, etc. The tragedy for me is just so biting that I can't stomach to even comment on the things I've heard and read from other media outlets. In this instance, I'd much rather let Heath's family and loves ones grieve in peace (it has been announced that his funeral will be a private, family only service ... therefore, I will not be posting any photos from it on my blog) and I'll leave the mudslinging to other folks. As I've said before, I choose to remember Heath Ledger in his happy times and thru his body of work. [Source]

Moving on ... here are a few pictures of someone who was prolly trying to look cute but only ended up looking about as kooky as we'd expect. Britney Spears, who has been seen behind the wheel of a motor vehicle hiding underneath a jacket before, was spotted in her car last night hiding out from the paps ... I wonder what she was hiding from. Could it be that she's a bit nervous over the grilling that her Bestie Sam Lufti took from Kevin Federline's attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan as he was deposed yesterday?

Sources tell TMZ K-Daddy's lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, was all over Sam Lutfi, Brit's close friend, like white on rice during his deposition today. We're told the depo, which ended just before 6:00 PM, covered a wide range of issues. Sources say Kaplan asked about the meds Brit takes, where she goes, what she does at home, what she drinks, and on and on. Kaplan also asked Lutfi about his relationship with the photo agency X17 and specifically whether he and Brit have a financial deal where they help X17 get pics of Brit and in return get moolah. X17 has denied there's any deal. We're told Kaplan asked Lutfi about his income and where he gets it, how he supports himself, etc. We're also told Kaplan asked him about six lawsuits in which he was reportedly sued. We're told Lutfi answered that most of those suits were against his father.

I'm having a hard time believing that any of this child custody wrangling is going to work out favorably for our dear Britney Spears. Even if folks like shifty Sam Lufti fudge the truth a little (which is a huge no-no since they are sworn to tell the truth under oath) I can't imagine how Mark Vincent Kaplan is going to stop digging until he is able to get the damaging information that he is going for. There is a reason why all of these depos have been postponed for so long (you may recall that Sam Lufti was called to give his deposition a couple of months ago but he opted out for "health reasons") ... either Britney's allies needed time to get their stories straight (which is a huge assumption on my part) or they were just trying to postpone the inevitable for as long as they could thinking that the tactic might work in Brit's favor. Honestly, in the end, Britney has no one to blame but herself. Period. [Source]

Ryan Reynolds and Abigail Breslin were joined by Shohreh Aghdashloo (who I love, love, love) and others for the Santa Barbara International Film Festival premiere of their new movie Definitely, Maybe which was held at the Arlington Theater in Santa Barbara, CA last night. Here are a few pics:

Okay ... the honest truth is that this movie looks pretty bad even tho it may have a bit of cuteness to it. I've seen the trailer a few times and not only do I not get what the movie is about, I absolutely do not believe that Ryan and Abigail are father and daughter. Ryan Reynolds may be old enough to be her dad but he does not look like he's old enough to be her dad. I also doubt that Ryan will spend much time in any shirtless/half-nekkid capacity in this flick (unlike the remarkably horrible Blade: Trinity in which he was really hot, really half-nekkid and which I've watched repeatedly despite its horribleness) so I might have to pass on this one. I have to give a shout out to my girl Shohreh Aghdashloo who showed up at this movie premiere. Shoreh has played some amazing characters over the years ... I loved her as Dina Araz in the 4th season of 24 (where she played the repentant mother to Behrooz Araz -- remember him? Dang, that was a good season) and I really loved her in the movie The House of Sand and Fog. Please pardon the gushing but I don't get to talk about Shohreh Aghdashloo very often so I'll take every chance I get :) [Source]

Sylvester Stallone and Julie Benz where joined by former Terminator and current California Governor Ahhnold Schwarzenegger and others at the Lionsgate Films premiere of their new movie John Rambo (aka Rambo IV) at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas NV last night. Here are a few pics from the red carpet and afterparty:

As difficult as it may be to believe, the dark-haired woman in these pics is, indeed, Julie Benz of Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel/Dexter fame. She looks completely different in these pics but it's not an entirely bad look either. I'm not sure that her appearance in this new Rambo installment will do wonders for her career but, eh, I can't blame a girl for workin'. I'm very surprised that Governor Ahhnold deigned to show his face on the red carpet of a movie premiere, even for his friend Sly Stallone. Gov. Ahhnold has done everything he can to distance himself from his former acting career now that he's the governor of the great state of California. I guess he is a good sport after all. While I'll deffo, mebbe be skipping out on the new Ryan Reynolds flick I think I might have to shell out the $12.00 to see this Rambo movie ... I hear it's gory as hell and is basically a bloodbath in the jungle -- a nod to the hey day of the big action flicks of the 80's, I assume. I'm down with a bit of mindless junk like this ... it might be fun. Besides, I really heart Julie Benz so I'd love to support her if I can. [Source]

The day that no one thought would ever come, including Amy Winehouse herself, has finally come at long last. Against her worser judgment, Amy Winehouse has agreed to enter a rehab program after a "shocking" video of her bragging about drug use as she smoked a crack pipe hit the InterWeb -- er, at the strong urging of her record label boss. Hopefully, she'll take this stint in rehab seriously and will finally get the hope that she desperately needs:

AMY WINEHOUSE went into rehab yesterday - just days after The Sun’s shock video of her smoking crack cocaine. The shamed singer, 24, checked into a clinic after being summoned to a crunch meeting with the mogul who runs her record label. Amy -- who turned up for the summit sporting a supersize version of her trademark beehive hairdo -- was told her career was over unless she got clean. Later she arrived at the central London clinic STILL looking reluctant to go in. Her cab driver dad Mitch, 57, and a member of the hospital's staff had to push her towards the entrance. Amy, clutching a pile of newspapers, was still in the clothes she wore to her showdown with Universal Music Group supremo Lucian Grainge. Following his ultimatum, the label admitted for the first time that the star -- famous for her hit song Rehab -- is addicted to drugs. A statement said she had gone into rehab ahead of her scheduled appearance at the Grammy Awards next month. Plans for her to go to tomorrow's NRJ music awards in France were cancelled ...

"Amy decided to enter the facility today after talks with her record label, management, family and doctors. She has come to understand that she requires specialist treatment to continue her ongoing recovery from drug addiction and prepare for her planned appearance at the Grammy Awards. Amy entered the facility by mutual agreement and continues to receive the full support of all concerned."

See ... I don't want to sound like a doubting Thomas but if Amy Winehouse is only going to rehab at the behest of her boss (who may have threatened to fire her if she didn't comply) in the hopes that she can be allowed to perform at the Grammy Awards here in the US then there is no way she is taking this treatment seriously enough for it to be successful. Believe me, I really hope that she is able to, one day, clean up her act in time to save her life but until she decides to seek treatment on her own, without threats and cajoling from outside sources, then I don't know that she's going to be successful. Yay! Carrie Bradshaw is back on the scene in Manhattan this week as she, um, I mean Sarah Jessica Parker posed around NYC yesterday for a new photoshoot to promote the new Sex and the City Movie. Here are a few pics of SJP as Carrie kicking up her heels on the streets of NYC yesterday (the scene looks like it alludes to the opening sequence of the TV show):

And here are a bunch of colorful pics of a pastel-laiden Carrie posing in SoHo:

Okay ... this wrap jacket that SJP is carrying looks right on her in her role as Carrie Bradshaw. That fugly pink marshmallowy thing that Lucy Liu wore to the Valentino fashion show earlier this week just looked so wrong. I swear ... I feel like a religious convert. I am now SO excited for the new SATC Movie now that I've finally watched the entire TV series. I may be a new fan (8 years too late) but I'm a rabid fan nonetheless ... especially since the series is so fresh in my mind. Woot! I can't wait :) [Source]

Hayden Panettiere just can't seem to get away from having to squeeze into her little cheerleader outfit for long. Here are new pics of Hayden on the set of her Heroes co-star Greg Grunberg's new movie, The Group, which is currently filming in North Hollywood, CA, rockin' the look that made her a star:

Heh. You just *know* that Hayden's Heroes bosses insist that she wear that outfit on the set at least once a month. You also *know* that Milo Ventimiglia, Hayden's rumored paramour, insists that she wear that outfit in private a lot more than just once a month ;) [Source]

In other Hayden news, she was joined by Latinoid cutie Wilmer Valderrama, a slimmed down Jeremy Piven and desperate for attention Cousin Alli Sims at the launch party for Pepsi STUFF at Element nightclub in Hollywood, CA last night ... here are a few pics from the red carpet:

It was nice of Hayden Panettiere to classy up the joint ... I'm sure her appearance did much to offset the lameness that Cousin Alli brought to the party. Once again, Pepsi is set to give away free stuff underneath the caps of their bottles of pop. I, for one, much prefer it when they give away free iTunes songs but free stuff is free stuff, I suppose. That being said ... I should confess that I am staunchly on Team Coca-Cola ;) [Source]

Here are new pics of Zac Efron on the set of his new movie Seventeen shooting scenes in a bright yellow, hawt-looking Lamborghini:

Seriously ... Zac has to be the luckiest kid on Earth. This car is just too fly for him ... and yes, my ire comes from a place of seething jealousy. Hahaha. [Source]

Kylie Minogue has already left our fair shores here in the US for her adopted homeland of England. Here are a couple pics of Kylie just after her arrival in London yesterday:

Boo. She don't love us here in the US. She was only here for, like, a second and that was merely to work on a music video and attend one public event honoring her. We, here in the US, are severely lacking in Kylieness ... she needs to spend a lot more time here with us before I start to go mad. [Source]

Miss Eva Longoria was lookin' really hawt in this animal-printesque little number as she arrived at her hotel in London last night:

Of course, this cute little dress was only one of at least 6 different outfits that she was seen wearing out and about in a 48-hour period this week. I normally hate outfits like this but it looks damn good on her. I approve!! [Source]

Elsewhere in the Land of Eng, Vicki B. took her youngest children Romeo and Cruz Beckham for a little shopping and dinner jaunt in Manchester, England this week ... and, lo and behold, it appears that the paps managed to catch a tiny hint of a smile on her normally cold and robotic face:

Either the fembot was malfunctioning or she has had her systems upgraded to allow for random hints of genuine emotion. Yeah, my money is on a short circuit. [Source]

And finally ... here is the latest batch of photos from Disney's Year of a Million Dreams campaign which features celebrities in the roles of some of Disney's most iconic characters. In this latest round we have Gisele Bundchen and Mikhail Baryshnikov as Wendy and Peter Pan (with Tina Fey as too-small-to-see Tinkerbell), Jennifer Lopez and hubby Marc Anthony as Princess Jasmin and Aladdin, Whoopi Goldberg as The Genie and Jessica Biel as Pocahontas:

I still think that David Beckham as Prince Phillip (from Sleeping Beauty) is the best photo of the entire campaign ... but I think this batch is the best batch overall. I might've cast Marc Anthony as Aladdin's pet monkey Abu instead but I can understand how J. Lo might've had a problem with that. I also might've cast Robin Williams as The Genie (or is that too obvs?) ... or at least made Whoopi look blue or something. That said, I really do like this campaign ... it's fun and it's very surprising to see who gets cast as which character. [Source]

Les News:
So ... I'm back home in D-Town and it feels good, freezing weather notwithstanding. Today is my dad's birthday and I'm taking him and my moms out for a nice dinner and then later on I'm hoping to hook up with Sarah and her ever-partying aunts. I have a lot of stuff to do and not much time to do it so I must be out ... I hope y'all have a great weekend ... have fun, be safe. I'm out.
