Boyz To Nekkid Men
Click above to see larger size image
After an eight year hiatus, Irish boy band Boyzone are back - and looking better than ever. In a bid to outdo their reunited rivals Take That, Boyzone have spent weeks in the gym getting in shape for their comeback tour, which kicked off in Belfast on Sunday night. Their hard work obviously paid off after their first show of their UK comeback tour opened to rave reviews. The Dublin-born singers are now married thirtysomething fathers compared to youthful teenagers when they were first put together by X Factor judge Louis Walsh in the early 1990s. But because they are older, their fans are too, meaning they can push the boundaries with their raunchy stage show. To promote their comeback tour, the group showed off their six packs in a homage to the 1997 British comedy Full Monty for this week's Heat magazine.
Woot! I love it! I really miss all the campy fun that pop music used to bring to the US audience but I'm really glad our friends on the other side of the pond know how to keep things really fun. I'm also really glad that Boyzone are a bit desperate enough to get nekkid just to sell a few more concert tickets. Wee!!! [Source]

The TV Guide: In Memorial
Last night, we met up with Marissa for dinner at the SoHo House, which was the perfect way to end the weekend. The weather was breezy and warm and the company and conversation was sublime. Here is a pic that Marissa, David and I snapped before we called it a night:
I had a great trip this time around and I am already anxious to come back. Thank you NY, I'll see you soon!

Hollywood Mourns Sydney Pollack
Sydney Pollack was remembered by some of the elite actors he directed in films such as "Out of Africa," "Tootsie," and "Absence of Malice," not only for his Academy Award-winning direction, but also for his acting talents. Pollack, diagnosed with cancer about nine months ago, died Monday afternoon, surrounded by family, at his home in Pacific Palisades in Los Angeles, said his publicist, Leslee Dart. He was 73. Unlike many other top directors of his era, Pollack was also a film and television actor himself, and he used this unique position to forge a relationship with Hollywood's elite stars and create some of the most successful films of the 1970s and '80s. "I sort of straddle the line ... between personal movies and mainstream Hollywood," he told The Associated Press in 1993. In 1970, "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?," about Depression-era marathon dancers, received nine Oscar nominations, including one for Pollack's direction. He was nominated again for best director for 1982's "Tootsie," starring Dustin Hoffman as a cross-dressing actor and Pollack as the exasperated agent who tells him, "I begged you to get some therapy." As director and producer, he won Academy Awards for the 1986 romantic epic "Out of Africa," starring Robert Redford and Meryl Streep, which captured seven Oscars in all. Last fall, Pollack played law firm boss Marty Bach opposite George Clooney in "Michael Clayton," which he also co-produced. It received seven Oscar nominations. "Sydney made the world a little better, movies a little better and even dinner a little better. A tip of the hat to a class act," Clooney said in a statement. "He'll be missed terribly." Other A-listers Pollack directed include Sally Field and Paul Newman in "Absence of Malice," Nicole Kidman and Sean Penn in "The Interpreter," Robert Mitchum in "The Yakuza," Tom Cruise in "The Firm," and Redford in seven films: "This Property Is Condemned," "Jeremiah Johnson," "Three Days of the Condor," "The Way We Were" with Barbra Streisand, "The Electric Horseman," "Out of Africa" and "Havana." In later years, Pollack, who stood over six feet tall and had a striking presence on screen, devoted more time to acting, appearing in Woody Allen's "Husbands and Wives," Robert Altman's "The Player," Robert Zemeckis' "Death Becomes Her" and Stanley Kubrick's "Eyes Wide Shut." On television, Pollack had an occasional recurring role on the NBC sitcom "Will & Grace" playing Will's (Eric McCormack) father, and appeared in the "The Sopranos," "Frasier" and "Mad About You." His last screen appearance was in "Made of Honor," a romantic comedy currently in theaters, where he played the oft-married father of star Patrick Dempsey's character ... Pollack produced many independent films with the late Anthony Minghella and the production company Mirage Enterprises. His producing credits include "The Talented Mr. Ripley"; "Cold Mountain"; "Sketches of Frank Gehry," a documentary that was the final film directed by Pollack; and the new HBO film "Recount," about the 2000 presidential election. Sidney Irwin Pollack was born in Lafayette, Ind., to first-generation Russian-Americans. In high school in South Bend, he fell in love with theater, a passion that prompted him to forgo college, move to New York and enroll in the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theater ... "Stars are like thoroughbreds," Pollack once told The New York Times. "Yes, it's a little more dangerous with them. They are more temperamental. You have to be careful because you can be thrown. But when they do what they do best — whatever it is that's made them a star — it's really exciting." Pollack is survived by his wife, Claire; two daughters, Rebecca and Rachel; his brother Bernie; and six grandchildren.
Sydney Pollack always struck me as a very unassuming man ... especially when you take into consideration all of the big movies he worked on and all of the accolades he had heaped upon him thruout his career. I think I will always remember him as Will's dad on Will & Grace ... he played a great father and I want to believe that he was most like that character in real life. He will be sorely missed :( [Source]

Christian Bale Does Details Magazine
Here is a portion of Christian's Q&A with Details:
What did you think when you first saw yourself in the Batsuit?
I was standing on the back lot where they were creating the suit, and I had a few minutes to myself, staring up close in the mirror, just thinking, "This isn't going to work. I'm claustrophobic, I can't breathe, I'm getting a headache already, and this is all going to go very badly."
What persuaded you otherwise?
I just said to myself, "Breathe deeply for a few minutes. Try this out. Don't run around yelling and making an ass of yourself trying to pull the whole thing off." I wasn't going to get it off by myself. It takes three people. I just had flashes of what an asshole I would feel like saying "Well, I wasn't able to play that character, because I panicked every time I got in the suit."
Michael Caine has talked about the intensity of Heath Ledger's portrayal of the Joker in The Dark Knight. How did you find working with him?
He was incredibly intense in his performance but incredibly mellow and laid-back. Certainly there was this great anarchistic streak to it—just getting dirtier than anybody's envisioned the Joker before. This character has power because he has no limits—absolutely nothing to lose.
How has Ledger's death changed the way you look at the film?
Naturally it was something I wanted to share with him—and expected to do so. And I can't do anything else but hope that it will be an absolutely appropriate celebration of his work.
Which character that you've taken home with you has your wife liked least?
I'd say Jim [the war veteran with post-traumatic stress disorder in Harsh Times]. There were probably not a lot of wonderful memories about him. He's not getting invited back any time soon.
What about the one she's liked the most?
That's quite surprising—any time Trevor from The Machinist wants to come around the house, he's always welcome.
How good do you think you are at being famous?
I don't really understand the question. Because there are people that you would undeniably call famous, and I'm not. You can go to many, many people and say "Christian Bale" and they have no idea who the hell you're talking about. They might have seen a number of my movies, but they'll still have no idea who you're talking about. So I don't think I'm qualified to talk about fame.
I just love Christian Bale. He is such a fascinating man ... his body of work is so varied (Reign of Fire) and impressive (Velvet Goldmine) and he never ceases to entertain. When I think about my favorite actors, he's always the one that comes to mind. He can play funny or serious (Little Women), scary and alluring (American Psycho). When you consider how humble he is and how devoted to his family he is -- well, he just couldn't get any dreamier. I cannot tell you how much it thrills me that he will be playing Batman in this latest franchise. Christian Bale may be hot but Christian Bale in rubber is downright criminal. I'm pretty sure I'll be a fan for life! Click HERE to read the rest of his Details Q&A. [Source]

Making The Cut

Do you suppose that little Max started talkin' some shizz at the party and one of the other celeb kids had to teach him a lesson about respect? You know, if little Zahara Jolie-Pitt would've been at the party, that's exactly what I would've guessed might've happened (after all, Zahara always looks like she's 5 seconds away from cutting any smart bitches that might get in her face). Meh, maybe the little tyke got injured at home playing with unsafe toys or something. Methinks Xtina might need to hire herself a better nanny. [Source]

Who Is That Masked Man?
Click above to find out who it is
While this is a cute idea I shudder to think how other "famous-type folk" might also wish to capitalize ... soon we may be seeing advertisements on Kim Kardashian's ass, Brangelina's children and Paris Hilton's crotch. Woe unto us. [Source]

A Return To The Scene Of The Crime
Yeah, there ain't all that much drama in these pics, except for the pic where Brooke is enjoying a tearful embrace by her friend and passenger as her mother Linda skulks away and her father Hulk looks on. To be totally honest, I'm very glad that no one was injured in this latest accident. Even tho I think that the Hogan family could use a serious dose of reality and could really benefit from an attitude adjustment, I would never want to wish injury on any of them. Tho, as I've stated before, karmic retribution can be rough ... I hope they manage to stay out of harm's way.
Incidentally, after Brooke removed her My Space blog post about the wonders of seat belts (which you can read in its entirety HERE) she put up a new blogpost in its place:
You gotta admire that Hogan entrepreneurial spirit. Oh wait, no you don't, feel free to be completely grossed out by it like I am. [Source]

Going Tow To Tow

Could it possibly be that VB's positronic brain matrix is so full of other information (ie. shopping, child care, quantum physics) that she merely failed to keep up with the menial task of making car payments, thereby defaulting on her contractual obligations resulting in having her car repossessed? Yeah, even I have a hard time believing that. VB prolly wanted to have her car washed and she didn't want to have her tires get dirty by having them touch pavement so she had her car towed to the carwash instead. Hee hee ... I think I'll just pretend that the Beckhams had their car repoed ... that would be a much funner way to start the day :) [Source]

The Secret's Out

I've said it before -- I think they make a cute couple ... but, it's always weird when co-stars who are "dating" on a TV show start dating in real life, especially when you know that relationships like that don't really have a great success rate -- good on them for giving it a go. Things should be fine for the Penn Pals as long as they don't suffer a nasty break-up cuz, you know, that might have an adverse effect on the show they both star in and end up ruining their careers ... and then what would we have to watch on Monday nights?
